Celtic Whiskey Bar & Larder in Killarney just off New Street in the heart of Killarney sits a place that every whiskey lover should have on their radar. The Celtic Whiskey Bar & Larder isn’t just Ireland’s largest whiskey collection under one roof (outside of my house) it’s also a great place for food in Killarney.

With over 1,200 whiskeys (yes, really) and a menu that champions local Irish ingredients, this warm and inviting space walks the line between elevated and accessible. Whether you’re in town for the Ring of Kerry or just passing through Co. Kerry, consider this bar a non-negotiable stop.

I have been here a good few times over the years and honestly it is a solid choice for most people when in Kerry.

Inside Celtic Whiskey Bar Killarney

Inside the Celtic Whiskey Bar in Killarney

Walk through the doors and you’re immediately hit with a sense of this place. Bottles line the walls like library stacks for the thirsty everything from single pot still Irish classics to more rare Irish whiskey bottles and even some more bottles of Irish whiskey. There’s no velvet rope energy here, though. The vibe is laid-back, with modern Irish charm, a softly glowing bar, and staff who can recommend a whiskey without talking down to you.

The crowd? A mix of whiskey geeks, curious tourists, and locals enjoying a proper drink in good company. Heads up though this place is very busy between tours, diners and drinkers.

The Whiskey (And Then Some)

Of course, I couldn’t resist a guided whiskey and chocolate pairing a standout feature that turns a tasting into something unforgettable. A knowledgeable guide and a recorded TV presentation walked us through four pours, each paired with a local handcrafted chocolate. Together, they amplified each other in ways: nuttier, deeper, more floral.

I love whiskey! It pretty much is my life, but the chocolates stole the show!

Yes, they offer flights. Yes, the bartenders know their stuff. And yes, there’s a takeaway bottle shop if you fall in love with something rare and beer too of course, see the walls for what they currently have on tap.

What I Ate in the Celtic Whiskey Bar Killarney

It would’ve been easy to sip and call it a day but the menu demanded attention. Irish ingredients shine in clever, comforting dishes that feel tailored for pairing.

Black Pudding Salad
A brilliant starter—warm, earthy, and rich. The black pudding is perfectly seared, paired with peppery greens, sharp vinaigrette, and bacon lardons with hints of apple to keep it balanced. Rustic yet refined.

Pan-Fried Hake
Flaky, tender hake served skin-side crisp, resting over a bed of potatoes and chive cream. A clean, elegant dish that lets the fish shine while offering just enough richness to pair with a lighter Irish whiskey.

Wild Mushroom Risotto
Deep, umami-packed, and beautifully cooked. This one surprised me. Rich without being heavy, finished with truffle oil and a touch of Parmesan. A vegetarian-friendly option that’s hearty and satisfying.

Come for the Whiskey, Stay for the Soul

The Celtic Whiskey Bar & Larder isn’t just about the numbers on the shelves or the slick pairings. It’s about a genuine love for whiskey and hospitality. Whether you’re nerding out over tasting notes or just looking for a cozy bite in town, this place delivers.

It’s one of the best things to do in Killarney and honestly the food is worth stopping in for. In a town where being Irish and more Irish than the next is a thing it can be hard to get good food, but I do think this is the spot for some great local food in Killarney.

Could this be the best whiskey bar in Ireland or would the Thomas Connelly or Dick Mack’s have something better to offer?!
