It may have been written a while ago, but it’s finally happened as Bacardi buys Teeling. If you’ve been following my journey here at Whiskey4Breakfast, you know that Dublin’s own Teeling Whiskey holds a special place in my collection. From their boundary-pushing wood finishes to their ultra-premium aged malts, they’ve been a massive driver in the modern Irish whiskey renaissance.
Well, some massive industry news just dropped that is going to shape the future of this brand for decades to come.
Bacardi Limited has officially acquired 100% full ownership of the Teeling Whiskey Company.
As detailed in recent press releases and social media announcements, the family-owned spirits giant completed the transaction to become the sole owner of the iconic Dublin brand, marking the end of an era and the start of an exciting new chapter.
Bacardi Buys Teeling: The Timeline
This wasn’t a sudden buyout; it’s the culmination of a highly successful, nearly decade-long relationship.
- 2017: Bacardi first bought a minority stake in the Dublin-based distillery.
- 2023: Bacardi stepped up its investment to become the majority shareholder.
- Present: Bacardi takes the final step to full acquisition.
Since Bacardi first got involved back in 2017, Teeling has more than doubled in size and significantly expanded its global footprint, now exporting to more than 80 markets worldwide.

What This Means for the Teeling Founders
Whenever a major multinational corporation takes full control of an independent craft distillery, whiskey fans naturally worry about whether the liquid will lose its soul. However, there is plenty of reason to stay optimistic here.
Also they would have had fantastic council from their father John Teeling who bought and sold the Cooley Distillery in 2012 to Beam International.
Brothers Jack and Stephen Teeling, who founded the company back in 2012 to bring craft distilling back to Dublin for the first time in over 125 years, aren’t walking away. Bacardi confirmed that both brothers will remain actively involved as strategic advisors to help shape the future of the brand and drive long-term growth.
In a statement highlighted Jack Teeling expressed total confidence in the move:
“My brother and I both know that at Bacardi, TEELING is in the best possible hands. Working closely with the Bacardi team over the last nine years has proven to us that as a family-owned company, Bacardi appreciates the value of everything the TEELING brand stands for and its commitment to raising the bar for Irish whiskey.”
Why Bacardi is All-In on Teeling
Bacardi’s Chief Executive Officer, Mahesh Madhavan, made it clear that they see Teeling as the crown jewel of their Irish whiskey portfolio . Madhavan noted that Teeling represents “quality, craftsmanship and a fearless approach to the category with fresh ideas and innovative new whiskeys”.
And he’s absolutely spot on. Teeling is officially the World’s Most Awarded Irish Whiskey (based on the World Whiskies Awards from 2019–2025), racking up over 650 international awards.
That “fearless approach” to innovation is exactly what I love about them. They are never afraid to push the boundaries of what Irish whiskey can taste like.
At the same time, their ability to deliver world-class luxury liquid is unmatched. If you want to see what top-tier Dublin distilling looks like, you have to read my full breakdown of the stunning Teeling Rising Reserve 21-Year-Old Irish Whiskey Review.
Bacardi Buys Teeling: Final Thoughts
With Bacardi’s massive global distribution network and deep pockets fully backing the distillery, we are likely going to see Teeling land on shelves that independent brands could only dream of reaching. Since Bacardi boasts global powerhouses like Patrón, Grey Goose, and Angel’s Envy in their portfolio, Teeling is sitting alongside pure royalty.
As long as Jack and Stephen Teeling keep guiding the ship from an advisory standpoint, ensuring the liquid retains its signature, unconventional craft quality, this acquisition is a massive win for Irish whiskey fans worldwide.
Sláinte!
