best pubs in dingle

From a drinks expert who has done the legwork, here is the ultimate locals guide to the best pubs in Dingle and the surrounding peninsula for your next epic pub crawl.

To get a true taste of Dingle, you need a flawless mix of historic “hardware pubs,” roaring traditional Irish music (trad sessions), great local food, and deep-rooted Gaelic heritage.

I spend my year traveling the length and breadth of Ireland, tracking down the country’s finest whiskey bars, Irish pubs (we just call them pubs), whiskey distilleries, and local culinary gems. I’ve sat in hundreds of snugs, but let me tell you: nothing on earth quite matches the magic of the Wild Atlantic Way when it comes to pub culture.

Dingle (or Daingean Uí Chúis which translates to “the fortress of Ó Cúis” (often anglicized as Hussey, that settled the area)) historically boasted one of the highest numbers of drinking establishments per capita in Ireland.

Dick Mack’s Pub & Brewery

Exterior of Dick Mack's Pub in Dingle

No trip to Dingle is complete without stepping across the threshold of Dick Mack’s.

Established in 1899, this world-famous establishment is the quintessential Irish multi-purpose pub. Step to the left, and you are standing in a fully functional leather haberdashery surrounded by boots and belts; step to the right, and you’re ordering from an incredible selection of over 200 whiskies. Head out the back and you have a beer garden typically filled with music surrounded by old buildings – one of which is the Dick Mack’s Brew House which makes their own locally brewed craft beers.

If you are lucky you might see the leather belt maker working away and if you are truly in luck one of the two bar snugs might be empty ready to welcome you into Dick Mack’s world.

  • The Vibe: Legendary craic, cozy historic snugs and a bustling outdoor beer garden.
  • The Expert Dram: Ask the bartender what unique, limited-edition independent Irish whiskey bottling they currently have behind the countertheir connection to the premium whiskey scene is unmatched.
  • Don’t Miss: Spotting the Hollywood-style stars on the pavement outside showcasing famous past patrons (like Sean Connery and Julia Roberts).

Top tip: You can go next door to the Fish Box and put your name on the waitlist (there is always a wait) and go into Dick Macks for a pint until your table is ready…perfect!

Foxy John’s

Foxy John's hardware store and pub in Dingle

Ever wanted to buy a box of nails, listen to trad music, and drink a flawless pint of stout all at the exact same time? Welcome to Foxy John’s. This is Dingle’s most famous “hardware pub,” where the counters are lined with both beer taps and hammers for sale. This is not a curated pub made to look old, this is a place that is lined with character and curiosities.

When you enter on the left there is a wee snug that can feel like a total escape even when the bar is jam packed and then out the back you will find plenty of space for groups, hen parties and football teams all ready for a bitta craic and a few pints.

  • The Vibe: Delightfully eccentric, warm, and constantly buzzing with both curious travelers and locals looking for plumbing parts.
  • Don’t Miss: Pulling up a stool at the hardware counter. It is one of the most photographed pub interiors in Ireland for a good reason.

If you are travelling to Dingle don’t forget to check out Killarney, the pubs there are class!! Read about them here.

Curran’s Bar (Tigh Uí Churráin)

Outside Curran’s Bar in Dingle on a blue sky day

Located proudly atop Main Street, Curran’s Bar has been family-owned and operated since 1871. Much like Foxy John’s, it heavily embraces traditional merchant-pub heritage. The walls are a masterclass in cultivated clutter, lined with old-school weighing scales, boots, ropes, and vintage memorabilia.

Now there is a couple of cracking snugs in Curran’s, one right as you enter on the right and then one in the far left corner – both serve a purpose for having the craic – the best snug though is the one right by the bar, that’s where you’ll typically find me.

  • The Vibe: Completely untouched by time. There are three genuine, historic wooden snugs in the corners that offer the perfect private nook for a quiet chat over a creamy pint.
  • Fun Fact: The famous Irish storyteller Peig Sayers actually worked here as a teenager back in the late 19th century.

Kennedy’s Bar

Kennedy’s Bar in Dingle

Tucked away on Upper Main Street, Kennedy’s is an absolute masterclass in preservation. First opened in the 1930s, it was beautifully restored and reopened by the grandchildren of the original owners. It retains its gorgeous, old-world grocery-store charm with a maze of small rooms, crackling fireplaces, and candlelit tables.

What about a snug in Kennedy’s Bar? Any here..? well yes there absolutely is and it could be the smallest snug in Dingle, if not the smallest snug in Ireland! Be warned it’s tight and intimate, maybe even the most romantic snug in Ireland?

  • The Vibe: Romantic, intimate, and entirely acoustic. It’s highly regarded for spontaneous acoustic jam sessions that bring locals and strangers together over music.

Hannie Agnes’s

If you are wandering down (or up) Green Street looking for brilliant traditional Irish music, follow the sound of the fiddle straight into Hannie Agnes’s. This rustic, candlelit local favourite feels like stepping directly into someone’s historic living room.

Yes…they also have a snug, of course they do (maybe the best snugs in Dingle should be my next blog). There are 3 distinct sections to Hannie Agnes’s, the bar area, the stone wall room (usually where the live music is, also the toilets) and the back room, which feels like an Irish poker den.

  • The Vibe: Exceptionally friendly bar staff, great local banter, and an incredibly cozy atmosphere.
  • What to Order: Ask the bartender for “The Dingle Donkey,” a fiery house specialty cocktail mixed entirely with spirits from the local Dingle Distillery down the road.

Heading out onto the Slea Head Drive?

While Dingle Town is a goldmine, some of the absolute best, most historic cultural pubs are located just a short drive out along the stunning Slea Head loop. Do not miss these next four coastal gems.

Páidí Ó Sé’s Pub (Ventry)

Located a short 10-minute drive outside Dingle town in the seaside village of Ventry (Ceann Trá), this pub is a holy grail for Irish sports fans. Founded by the legendary Kerry Gaelic football manager and player Páidí Ó Sé, the pub is an absolute museum of GAA history.

  • The Vibe: Located right in the Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking region), you’ll hear the native tongue spoken fluently at the bar. The walls are entirely covered with photos of sports legends, political figures, and Hollywood icons (like Tom Cruise and Dolly Parton) who have made the pilgrimage here.
  • The Craic: Big open fires, traditional dance, and great pub food right along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Top Tip: if you are heading out onto the Dingle Peninsula make sure to call into Ealu at The Stonehouse for some epic food and amazing chocolates!

Tigh T.P. (Ballydavid)

Tigh T.P. (Ballydavid) pub in Dingle

Perched beautifully on the edge of the water in Baile na nGall (Ballydavid), Tigh T.P. offers some of the most breathtaking coastal views of any pub in Ireland. It sits right at the foot of Mount Brandon, overlooking a weathered pier and a sandy beach.

Great place for a swim and a pint after!

  • The Vibe: Bright, airy, and deeply authentic. Run by generations of the same family, it’s a brilliant place to hide away from the wild Atlantic weather.
  • The Foodie Pick: Incredible fresh seafood chowder, local hake, and a crisp drink enjoyed on the outdoor picnic benches right against the harbor wall if the sun breaks through.

Parking can be tricky, so get creative.

Kruger’s Bar (Dunquin)

Kruger’s Bar (Dunquin) the most westernly pub in the world Dingle
