The first time I visited Tree Bark Store Café in Galway was with my now-wife, during a weekend in Connemara where I was running the ConnaMarathon (great name). We detoured through Moycullen on our way back from Connemara to Galway City, lured by whispers of a coffee shop doing something different, turns out, those whispers were correct.

Tree Bark Store stood out immediately. It wasn’t just the name (though let’s be honest, if they don’t sell hundreds of shades of bark I’ll be disappointed). And if the fella sitting outside reading the paper was anything to go by this was the perfect place to be post marathon. Also a great place to stop for coffee if you are travelling along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Tree Bark Store Café is a mix of quality coffee, creative energy, and community charm that instantly made it feel like somewhere worth remembering. Now, every time we’re in the area, we go back because once you’ve had a coffee that good in a place that cool, you chase it.

Tree Bark Store Café: A Space of Pure Notions

Step inside and you’re met with part neighbourhood general store, part design-forward café. It’s cosy but spacious, stocked but not cluttered, you know most of it is by Irish indie retailers and slightly expensive but you get swept up in it all and just start buying. There’s a retail wall full of beans from top Irish and international roasters (Stone Valley, Farmhand, Calendar, and more), curated wines, and coffee gear for the home barista. We bought some cards where were defiantly unique and creative side.

Above the counter, a bold “COLLECT” sign tells you where the magic happens. The atmosphere is casual, but the standards are sky-high. Every coffee is treated with intention, every shelf with care.

I think it used to be a post office back in the day.

Retail shelves filled with Irish and global specialty coffee bags.

The coffee menu is refreshingly straightforward but serious about flavour. Whether it’s a perfectly dialled-in espresso, a velvety flat white, or a seasonal single origin filter, you’ll taste the quality in every sip. The beans rotate regularly, and the staff are happy to chat about what they’re serving.

Bonus points: they’re champions of Irish roasters, while also keeping shelves stocked with global favourites making it an ideal place to discover new brews. Or just stop and chill out.

Wine, Retail & Community Vibes

Tree Bark Store doesn’t stop at coffee. It’s also a standout retail space, offering:

  • A thoughtfully curated wine selection (honestly I wanted nothing more when I was here than wine).
  • Local and sustainable food goods
  • Art, books, and gifts with a distinctly Irish twist (who doesn’t love this stuff!).

They’re big on supporting Irish makers, which is part of what makes browsing the shop feel like discovering new favourites. There’s a real sense of place and purpose to everything they stock.

Whether you’re reading a paper out front, grabbing beans for home, or chatting to the barista about brewing tips, the energy seemed warm and genuine. Tree Bark Store is as much for the curious wanderer as it is for the coffee devotee.

If you find yourself anywhere near Moycullen, Tree Bark Store is a must-stop. It’s thoughtful, tasty, and just the right amount of quirky and it might just become your favourite new coffee habit.
