Square Restaurant got its name by being based just off the square in Dundalk’s town centre. It was a small tight space but they have since expanded its original footprint on the Square to accommodate more bums on seats. That’s good news for you.
If you’re searching for the best restaurant in Dundalk, where to eat in Dundalk, or modern Irish dining in County Louth, Square should be high on your list. And then go and visit its sister restaurant in Carrickmacross The Courthouse, so I’m told. I have yet to visit.
The room feels settled and grown-up. White walls, dark green panelling, warm timber floors, and shelves of wine and an Ode to Anthony. You can even see the kitchen at work which is always a nice touch… even if the specials are looking a bit bare.
I arrived just as the opened driving from Cork back to Belfast so they were just stretching their legs and it was lovely to get a full view of the space before people ruined it.
