Gather around, because today we’re taking a deep dive into Malones Triple Cask Irish Whiskey, a release tied to the legendary Malones Irish Bars, a must-visit spot if you’re ever in Glasgow or Edinburgh. Trust me, I’ve had my share of wild nights there music blaring, multiple floors to explore, pints flowing, and an impressive whiskey selection that’ll keep you entertained for hours. But let’s get back to the main event: this whiskey.
Rate That Pop:
We’ve got to start with our favourite part the pop…
On the Nose: Brown Sugar, Molasses, & Citrus
First sniff of Malones Triple Cask and it’s like walking into a kitchen mid-bake, with warm brown Demerara sugar aromas hitting you hard. There’s a rich, almost molasses-like sweetness, balanced with dried fruits and a hint of toasted oak.
But what makes this really unique is that subtle, zesty citrus note lurking in the background most likely from that unique red ale cask.

The Palate: Caramelised Sugar, Pear, & Dark Chocolate
Taking a sip, you’re greeted by caramelised brown sugar flavours, along with a touch of pear sweetness. Then comes that deep, rich dark chocolate cacao, rolling across the palate and mingling with classic baking spices. The bourbon cask influence shines through beautifully, giving waves of smooth vanilla.
And that red ale cask finish? It makes itself known with a crisp, almost lemony zing right on the tip of your tongue, adding a surprising twist before it all melts into a more familiar Irish whiskey experience.
The Verdict on Malones Triple Cask:

Score: “Aye, It’s Grand” (6.4/10) Malones Triple Cask Irish Whiskey earns a respectable spot in the “Aye, It’s Grand” category. It’s smooth, sweet, and packed with a balanced array of flavours, but it doesn’t quite reach for the stars. The blend of bourbon, oloroso sherry, and red ale casks keeps things interesting, and that extra ABV gives it a bit of extra oomph. It’s a whiskey that’s versatile enough to play well in cocktails.
For a first edition, it’s a bloody brilliant effort, and we’re curious to see what future releases bring to the table. If you get a chance to try it at one of the bars—do it. You’ll be in for a fun ride.
Sláinte!
