Where did you come from, where did you go? Well, pour me a glass of Foxes Bow and let’s find out! This week, we’re diving into a unique blend from The Alternative Liquor Company, an intriguing brand with a bit of Irish flair.

The Bottle and the Backstory

Foxes Bow is all about embracing that Limerick charm. You might notice the Mongolian nomadic tent word on the label, and if you’re wondering what that’s about, don’t overthink it, it’s a Limerick thing, tied to the Irish phrase “yurt,” which loosely means “good.” This is also a brand that has a great voice as they really are pushing to change the landscape of whiskey drinking. They are very clever in how they promote and have a lot of much bigger brands sitting up and taking notice (probably gonna steal their ideas and post them as their own next season…)

The whiskey itself is a blended Irish whiskey, distilled at The Great Northern Distillery big shoutout for their transparency. This release features a triple-distilled blend aged in Bourbon barrels, then finished in Oloroso Sherry and Rye casks. That combination promises a dynamic flavour profile, so let’s see if it delivers.

Rate That Pop!

Before we get to the nose and palate, you know the drill…it’s time to rate that pop. If you’re curious how it sounds and want to see if it lives up to expectations, check out the YouTube video below. Rate it yourself and tell me if it’s as satisfying as it seems!

Foxes Bow Tasting Notes

  1. On the Nose
Right off the bat, the nose is dominated by bourbon sweetness: vanilla, oak, and a hint of caramel. But wait, there’s a twist those spicy citrus notes from the Rye cask come crashing in, adding a bit of zing that keeps things interesting.
  2. The Palate
The first sip hits with a burst of raspberry sweetness, quick and lively. As it moves along the tongue, the familiar vanilla from the bourbon mingles with a touch of white pepper from the Rye, creating a nice balance of sweet and spice. There’s also a fresh, citrusy note weaving through, tying the flavors together.
  3. The Finish
As it settles, you get a subtle hint of nuttiness a little sherry influence coming through, giving it that final twist. It’s smooth, with just enough complexity to keep you guessing.

Overall Impression

Fox’s Bow delivers a fun, lively experience that balances bourbon warmth with sherry depth and rye spice. It’s an adventurous blend that keeps things interesting whether you’re a seasoned whiskey lover or just curious about a new flavour combo, it’s worth a try.

The Verdict:

Pairing Foxes Bow Irish Whiskey with The Túath Irish Whiskey Glass

Score: “Aye, It’s Grand” (5.8/10)
It offers a pleasant mix of rich vanilla from the bourbon cask, a touch of citrus from the rye, and a whisper of raspberry sweetness. While it’s an easy drinker with some enjoyable notes, it lacks the punch or complexity to truly stand out.

It holds its place, but you may find yourself looking for more depth in your next pour. That being said this is a great brand that is really challenging Irish Whiskey norms – they are one to watch for just doing things their way!
