Is Red Earl Irish Whiskey Worth a Sip? Here’s What I Think | Review #15

This is the second bottle from the Kinsale Spirits Company that has fallen into this category

A bottle of Red Early Irish Whiskey

Buckle up for a tale that could inspire a Netflix series. This whiskey is named after The Red Earl, a lad who escaped from Dublin Castle, fought his way across Ireland, and met a dramatic end in Spain courtesy of a double agent. Now, he lives on through this bottle of Red Earl Irish Whiskey from the Kinsale Spirits Company, part of their “Battle of Kinsale” range.

Talk about a legacy, eh? Maybe if I stage my own jail break, I’ll finally get a whiskey named after me too! – it will happen!

Rate That Pop

Before diving into the details, you know what we have to do: rate that pop!

On the Nose: Floral, Vanilla & a Hint of Strawberry

First sniff and you’re greeted with a floral bouquet classic of a high-grain blend. There’s also a sweet undertone of vanilla, and a surprising yet pleasant note of strawberry, like a summer berry field. Rounding it out is a touch of wood shavings that add a hint of complexity.

The Palate: Citrus Oils & Wood Tannins

On the first sip, citrus oils spread across the tongue, vibrant and zesty. Then, you’re hit with wood tannins and a smooth layer of caramel sweetness. Just when you think it’s done, those citrusy notes make a comeback, giving a lively finish.

The Verdict on Red Earl Irish Whiskey

Score: “Down the Drain” (3.9/10)
Red Earl Irish Whiskey lands squarely in the “Down the Drain” category. Despite the intriguing backstory and the hopes of a legendary sip, the flavours just don’t hold up. The citrus oils and caramel notes try to impress, but the overall experience feels thin and unremarkable.

Sadly this is the second bottle from the Kinsale Spirits Company that has fallen into this category – so there maybe a batching issue (the other being Wild Atlantic Way). I’m really not sure but I hope things turn around in terms of their bottled liquid quality.
