A bottle of Keepers Heart Irish American Blend

Okay so we’re diving into something quite unique: Keeper’s Heart, a blend of Irish AND American whiskey in one bottle. That’s right two whiskey worlds colliding, and it’s all thanks to O’Shaughnessy Distilling in Minnesota. With some whiskey legends like Brian Nation (ex-Master Distiller from Midleton) and David Perkins (of High West Distillery fame) behind the wheel, this bottle promises a blend that marries the heritage of Irish whiskey with the boldness of American rye. But enough of the backstory—let’s get to the good stuff.

First Impressions of Keepers Heart

Keeper’s Heart comes in at 43% ABV (86 proof), and the label is a whole story in itself, bursting with history and pride in this fusion. But, as always, the whiskey’s quality isn’t just in the storytelling; it’s in the tasting.

Rate That Pop:

Before we even sniff this blend, we have to rate that crucial bottle pop. Check it out for yourself:

On the Nose: Fresh & Fragrant

Right off the bat, the nose is a delightful surprise. There’s a delicate aroma of white grape and floral lilies, dancing alongside bold baking spices. You also get this fresh, zingy lemon zest that adds a vibrant twist. It’s a beautiful blend of soft and sharp, as if the Irish and American elements are harmonising in a fresh, fragrant symphony.

The Palate: A Clash of Flavours

The first sip is a rollercoaster of tastes. Up front, you get candied lemon and a hint of ginger, bringing a lively, zesty flavour. This is quickly followed by classic vanilla that coats your palate, clashing (in a good way) with the spicy American rye elements. There are oak spices pulling everything along, with a subtle but satisfying warmth.

The Finish: Lemon Meringue & Biscuit Crust

The finish is a winner. It leaves you with a lingering taste of lemon meringue pie, complete with a buttery biscuit crust. It’s smooth, zesty, and has just the right amount of sweetness to make you smile. The flavours come together beautifully, making for a memorable and refreshing end to the sip.

The Verdict on Keeper’s Heart:

Score: “Aye, It’s Grand” (7/10)
Keeper’s Heart lands at a respectable “Aye, It’s Grand” on our Whiskey4Breakfast scale. It’s a unique, well-executed blend that delivers on flavour and complexity. The fusion of Irish whiskey and American rye is both intriguing and enjoyable, with enough depth to keep seasoned whiskey drinkers happy while being approachable for newcomers. It’s the kind of whiskey you’d pour for friends to show them something different, yet reliable.

I have to say this is making waves in Ireland and I have seen their bottles on many a back bar and creeping onto cocktail menus too. They have a great team on the ground spear headed by Ger Garland (ex-Midleton Global Ambassador) and it shows. Love the idea as well of cross category liquids – a few in their range with age statements too which I can’t wait to check out.
