There are meals you remember, and then there are meals that feel like they’ve adopted you into a family. Tango in Killarney isn’t just one of my favourite food spots in Kerry it’s a place I genuinely look forward to revisiting every time I’m in town.

Nestled just off the bustling high street, Tango is part Argentinian soul food canteen, part wood-fired pizza haven, and 100% worth your time.

What You’re Getting Into

Tango began as a wood-fired pizza truck, and that oven still anchors the space huge, disco tiled, and always roaring. But this spot has grown into something more: it’s now a vibrant street food market-meets-café/restaurant, where you can get everything from house-made empanadas to sweet treats, pantry imports, and even mate.

Inside, it’s bright, warm, and personal. Think hand-painted signs, dangling plants, sunny yellow chairs, and walls lined with books (their own cookbook, such a mic drop), framed memories, and tins of yerba mate…for 100 yo yo’s A giant map on the wall connects the journey you are embarking on.

If you show up late or without a booking, good luck. On more than one occasion, I’ve seen the “Fully Booked” sign taped to the door. And after eating here again (yes, again), I completely get why.

What To Order at Tango in Killarney

Empanadas. Always.
These are the best empanadas I’ve had in Ireland possibly anywhere outside Argentina (but I haven’t been there so they could be better than the ones inside Argentina too!). The pastry is flaky but sturdy, hand-crimped and golden, and packed with rich minced beef, green olives, and warm spices. The chimichurri on the side is bright, garlicky, and perfect. Get more than one. You’ll wish you had.

The Pizza. Always.
The dough is naturally fermented for 48 hours chewy crust, airy inside, deep flavour. My last visit, I had a chorizo and mozzarella pie that was cooked to blistered perfection and gone in minutes. Their pizza game is on another level, and the wood-fired oven does serious work.

Dare I even say that this might be the Best Pizza in Ireland?

The Vibe

Think Buenos Aires meets small-town Ireland. There’s a handmade charm to everything here from the plates to the playlist. It’s stylish without trying, soulful without being fussy. And it just makes you happy to be there.
