If you’re in Prague and hunting for a dining experience that’s as memorable as a first sip of your favourite whiskey, Field is where you need to be. Tucked away in the Old Town, this Michelin-starred restaurant is redefining what it means to savour Czech cuisine. We’re talking about a meal where each dish tells a story, and trust me, it’s a narrative you’ll want to dive into.

A Field of Flavour: Modern Czech
Field is all about taking the traditional and flipping it on its head. Chef Radek Kašpárek and his team have built a menu rooted in Czech traditions but executed with a modern, minimalist twist. We’re talking locally sourced ingredients transformed into works of culinary art. From game meats to plant-based innovation, each bite is a surprise for the taste buds, in the best possible way.

An Atmosphere That Makes You Feel Like You’ve Found Something Special
Stepping into Field feels like discovering a secret gem. The rustic yet refined decor—a nod to nature, with earthy tones and subtle design elements—sets the stage for an unforgettable meal. The ambiance strikes is between high-end and edgy challenging the senses with multi media wall art and extravagant plating.

The Tasting Menu
You don’t just order a meal at Field; you embark on a tasting adventure. I went for the short degustation tasting menu which showcases a thoughtful progression of flavours, plating design and textures:

  • Amuse Bouche: A perfect start that sets the tone for the meal, awakening your palate and teasing what’s to come.
  • Starter: A dish of pumpkin, horsky cheese, black trumpet mushrooms, and mulberry. It’s autumn on a plate—earthy, rich, with a touch of brightness from the mulberry.
  • Sweetbread & Truffle: Decadent and luxurious, the sweetbread was paired with a generous shaving of truffle, making for an indulgent yet perfectly balanced bite.
  • Foie Gras & Black Currant: A clever pairing that marries the unctuous richness of foie gras with the sharp, tart burst of black currant—a flavor bomb you didn’t know you needed.
  • Beef, Potato, Pear & Buckwheat: Imagine all the best Irish flavors in one dish, yet executed with a Czech twist. The beef was tender, the potato and pear brought comfort, and the buckwheat added a delightful crunch.
  • Pudding: Finished with an unexpected dessert of parsley and cranberries—refreshing, herbaceous, and the perfect way to cleanse your palate.

Service
The service at Field was highly professional with a little whiff of pretentiousness. You’re greeted warmly, guided through the courses w, and treated to an experience that feels both educational (like choosing your own meat knife from Forge de Laguiole) and indulgent. Every wine recommendation come with a top note information (although be prepared to wait if you want the sommelier), and you’ll leave knowing more about Czech cuisine than you ever thought possible.

Sustainability & Local Sourcing
Field doesn’t just deliver on taste; they’re committed to sustainability and supporting local farmers. Ingredients are thoughtfully chosen to highlight the best of what the region has to offer, making each dish not only a flavour bomb but also an homage to the Czech landscape.

So, if you’re planning a special dinner in Prague and want to experience what it’s like to eat at one of the city’s best, Field should be near the top of your list. It’s not just a meal; it’s an education, an exploration, and a pure delight for your senses.
