If you’re strolling the colourful streets of Killarney and in search of a coffee worth slowing down for, check out the relatively new Boardwalk Coffee. Listen to me, they roast their own coffee, so you really are getting a bean to cup totally controlled experience, that is rare!

What I loved about this spot is the grab and go element, no waiting for tables to be cleared or your cup behind a food order waiting to be prepped oh and how friendly the staff were. All willing to chat and suggest great coffee and tray bakes with a smile.

Nestled right in the town centre, this sleek coffee stop is part of a small but mighty chain born on the Wild Atlantic Coast in Youghal (I did an IronMan there, if I haven’t told you). Founded in 2021 by father-and-son team Ger and Ray Flanagan, alongside master roaster Matteo Colaci, Boardwalk has built a loyal following by refusing to compromise on quality.
Their ethos is simple: small batch roasting, big flavour, no shortcuts.
From Humble Roasts
Boardwalk’s journey began with a modest roasting machine in East Cork, where every batch was crafted by hand to coax out the most vibrant flavours from each bean. Fast forward to today, and while the equipment has been upgraded, the small-batch philosophy remains at the heart of every cup.

Beans are sourced from specialty producers worldwide – Colombia, Brazil, Rwanda, and Costa Rica – each selected for exceptional quality (most scoring 84/85 on the specialty coffee scale).
Every week, the team cups their latest roasts, tasting for balance, body, and that perfect finish. The result? Coffee that’s as consistent as it is delicious.
This is one of three coffee shops they have by the way.
Coffee in Killarney

In Killarney, Boardwalk’s menu is a showcase of their craft. Whether you go for a bright Colombian filter with notes of orange and brown sugar, a rich Brazilian espresso with chocolate and amaretto hints, or the fruity depth of Rwandan beans, every cup tells its own story.
For those who prefer their coffee cold, their cold brew is smooth and full-bodied the perfect refresher after exploring the town or trekking the nearby national park.
Sweet & Savoury Bites to Match Your Brew

It’s not just about coffee here — Boardwalk’s counter is a temptation in itself. Think buttery, chewy cookies, triple chocolate brownies, and oaty nut bars alongside fresh, crusty baguettes stuffed with quality fillings like ham, cheddar, and tomato relish.

A morning pick-me-up could be as simple (and perfect) a single origin filter coffee paired with a warm chocolate chip cookie, or as indulgent as a flat white with a slab of brownie.
Why It’s a Must-Visit in Killarney

Boardwalk Coffee is more than just a caffeine stop; it’s an experience for anyone who values a proper cup. Their location makes it ideal for a pre-adventure fuel-up or a mid-afternoon recharge. With its modern design, friendly staff, and unwavering focus on quality, it’s no wonder locals and travellers alike keep coming back.
And if you fall in love with their coffee (you will), you can take a bag of beans home – freshly roasted and ready to brew.
It can be strangely easy to walk past this window (that is all is it) even though it is on the main street. Just keep your eyes peeled for this coffee sign down the wall and you’ll be grand.
