Tucked away just beyond the bustle of Killarney’s town centre, Husseys Bar is one of those rare places where you walk around and just smile at how Irish and unchanged it feels, nostalgic almost.

And while it might feel like it’s miles away from the crowds, you’ll be sipping a creamy pint here just five minutes’ walk from the centre. There’s no fanfare, no fluff just a family-run pub that’s been serving Killarney since 1870 and still doing it right.

It’s the kind of place you step into and immediately know you’ll be staying for at least two more than planned. Honestly this could be the Best Pub in Killarney.

Husseys Bar: Built for Slow Pints & Good Company

Everything about Hussey’s Bar invites you to slow down. The snugs dotted around the pub are like little sanctuaries made for watching the match, whispering over whiskeys, or just sinking into your own quiet headspace. If you’re lucky, the snug just left of the entrance might be free. I’ve been trying to get into it for years and still haven’t managed it, it’s that good.

The stout here is poured into a Murphys glass and sure that’s what you should be having so, made with love and patience, and the staff always seem to know when to chat and when to just leave you with your pint. I’ve spent many afternoons tucked in here and at the back with a book without a care in the world.

Backbar of Husseys in Killarney

Even though the snug to the left has always evaded me there is some great spots around to have your eyes glued to Gaelic football or hurling on the small TV behind the bar. Last time I was in it was filled with Dubs but sure don’t be holding that against the pub. I think it’s best to settle in, pint slowly and enjoy the craic.

It’s that rare blend of intimacy that you find in small Irish pubs and huge energy, an electric atmosphere without the chaos of a big sports bar but Husseys Bar is larger than life, I’ll tell you that for free.

Also look at this wee hatch with two stools. I haven’t sat here but I feel this could be the spot on a busy night to be in the thick of the action with direct access to the bar but still zip away from it all. Honestly for a small bar it’s got some great spaces.
