Pig's Lane Cocktail Bar in Killarney Entrance

Golden-lit whiskey cabinets at Pig’s Lane in Killarney, glowing against rich wood paneling in a hidden underground “members (not so) only” lounge.

If you know where to look tucked beside the Killarney Towers Hotel you’ll find a narrow tiled hallway beneath a sign that reads Pig’s Lane. Step inside and you’re not just entering a bar. You’re descending into one of Ireland’s most striking whiskey experiences and in for the Best Cocktails in Killarney.

Why is it called Pig’s Lane I hear you ask? Because it actually was Pig’s Lane. The name comes from the original laneway that ran from College Street to Railway Road back in the early 1900s. So this bar is a nod to Killarney’s past, not sure they had a cocktail bar back then though.

A cross between a hidden happening parlour, an art deco lounge, and a whiskey collector’s dream, Pig’s Lane is unapologetically stylish and quietly obsessed with quality. It’s moody in the best way: backlit cabinets, curved corridors, and intimate corners that whisper, “Settle in, boy.”

The Whiskey Parlour at Pig’s Lane

While the main bar out front does serve the best cocktails in Killarney, beers, and plenty of buzzy chat, the real treasure is behind. Walk past vintage signs, curved green tiles, and a hallway that feels like a throwback film set, and you’ll arrive at the Whiskey Parlour, marked “Members Only,” though they won’t keep you out if you’re there for the good stuff or just be sound about it.

Inside, the glow of over 300 Irish whiskeys lights the walls like stained glass. Shelves are lined with everything from Redbreast Dream Cask to limited-edition Midletons, Ireland’s finest to a few bottles you probably won’t find anywhere else outside of a distillery tour or auction site. It’s a collector’s cabinet you can actually drink from.

This isn’t your average whiskey bar with a few old photos and a shelf of Jameson. Pig’s Lane is meticulously styled and it works. Think: velvet chairs, candlelit tables, aged signage for “Galway Whisky” and “Limerick Pot Still,” and a chandelier that could hold court in a Wes Anderson film.

If you’re here to taste, you are in luck. Flights are thoughtfully curated, and single pours are generously offered. There’s a reverence here an appreciation for Irish whiskey and other world whiskey too. Curated whiskey flights that are both educational and flavourful – in my personal opinion flights are the best way to really understand flavour in whiskey. Whether you’re chasing rare pours or tasting your way through Ireland’s best, you’ve got options:

  • Vintage Flight: Older, deeper cuts for seasoned palates
  • The Local Flight: Featuring Kerry’s own Liberator
  • The World Flight: Global whiskeys in one sitting

What to drink at Pig’s Lane: The Best Cocktails in Killarney

Drinks menu in whiskey bar in Kerry

Couples whisper over rare pours and pints. Tourists boast new discoveries. And the occasional solo traveler sits, notebook out, glasses in hand, nodding to the music. I sat at the bar and flicked through their cocktail menu (the same one available in the main bar) and ordered away.

Pig’s Lane doesn’t do boring, and their drinks are proof of that. I had heard lots about the cocktails here so I decided to give it a go, truthfully high end cocktail bars outside of Dublin, Cork or Belfast are not easy to find so when I heard Pig’s Lane is the best cocktails in Killarney I felt the bar was low. However, I decided to flick their their lovely cocktail menu and give it a go.

The Derrynane Dew
Served on a mossy log slice and meant to arrive in a swirl of theatrical smoke, it’s more forest ritual than cocktail.

The Derrynane Dew Cocktail – A rich crimson drink with a large cube of ice, served in a glass nestled in moss atop a slice of wood.

Strong, stylish, and a little mysterious like an Old Fashioned that studied root vegetables and wine abroad. No smoke like the picture suggested but still a bloody great cocktail. I will be back to try more.

Final Sip

Killarney has no shortage of pubs and pints but Pig’s Lane offers something truly rare: a refined, immersive whiskey experience that doesn’t feel forced or fussy. This could be placed in any big city in the world and not be out of place, which is a nice change from trad music and Irish stew. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or just curious about Irish whiskey beyond the supermarket shelf, this place invites you in and rewards your curiosity.

Even the bathrooms carry the aesthetic — old tiling, copper-toned signage, and just enough oddities to make you smile on the way back from the bar. You could come here just for the design and still feel like you got your money’s worth.

It’s one of the best whiskey bars and cocktails bars in the country, full stop. And if you’re lucky enough to find yourself in that glowing parlour, treat yourself something special and stay a while.
