I feel O’Connor’s Traditional Pub Killarney has something magnetic about it, A pub that feels like it’s been waiting for me, since I parked the car. O’Connor’s Pub on High Street is one of the oldest pubs in Killarney celebrating 100 years in 2023 and it’s got that rare mix of history, heart, and hidden charm that makes it unforgettable.

Tucked inside its weathered white facade lies a pub lover’s dream: stone washed walls, checkerboard tile, a whiskey selection to rival any modern bar, and live Irish music most nights of the week. If you’re in Killarney, this is more than just a pit stop it’s an experience.

Inside O’Connor’s Traditional Pub Killarney

Step inside and you’re greeted by vintage Guinness signs (maybe the Best Guinness in Killarney), framed black-and-white photos, and the kind of cozy nooks that practically beg you to linger with a pint or 4. The lighting is low, the bar is buzzing or absolutely hopping!

There’s an undeniable old-school soul here with a new skool vibe from the chipped paint on the stair rail to the wall-mounted tribute to local legend Teddy O’Connor. This isn’t some polished gastropub trying to be quaint this place is history, poured fresh daily with a side of toastie.

Behind the Bar at O’Connor’s Killarney

Let’s get to it: the Guinness here is outstanding. Some even call it the Best Guinness in Killarney. Poured slow and served creamy, it’s a textbook pint worthy of its own visit. But Guinness is just the beginning. The bar offers a strong lineup of Irish beer taps and a serious whiskey shelf, neatly labeled and stacked behind the bar.

A selection of random Irish whiskey brands to rare finds like Midleton Very Rare and even a few international curiosities, the back bar is a whiskey lover’s playground. Ask nicely and they’ll guide you through a mini tasting (if they aren’t 4 deep at the bar) or serve you a proper measure with a knowing nod… for you to pay your bill.

The Toastie Menu: Pure Pub Comfort

Yes, they serve possibly the best Guinness in Killarney. Yes, the vibe is unbeatable. But what sealed it for me? The toasties!!

Close-up of the chalkboard toastie menu at O’Connor’s Bar, listing options like “Cheezus Christ” and “The Spicy One.”
  • 🧀 Cheezus Christ – A three-cheese blend with caramelized onion jam. Rich, gooey, borderline spiritual.
  • 🌶️ The Spicy One – Chicken, chorizo, jalapeño, and cheese—a fiery, beer-friendly bite.
  • 🥪 Back 2 Basics – The perfect ham & cheese, no notes.

It’s classic Irish pub fare done right no frills, all flavour, and somehow exactly what you want after a few sips of Redbreast or a second pint of stout. None of this stew shite!
