Tucked away in the heart of Smithfield, Fish Shop Dublin is proof that small spaces can deliver big flavor. Run by a husband-and-wife duo, this intimate seafood and wine bar has earned cult status among locals and food lovers alike. It’s the kind of place where the menu is handwritten, the rosé flows freely, and the fish is as fresh as it gets.
My wife and I booked in for a Friday night and were lucky enough to be looked after by Jess—knowledgeable, welcoming, and the kind of host that makes a great meal unforgettable. If you’re looking for a romantic or causal Dublin dinner spot or one of the best seafood restaurants in Dublin, this is it.
What We Ate at Fish Shop Dublin
We kicked things off with a couple of glasses of French bubbles as you do. Then followed with a plate of plump Irish oysters, served ice-cold with shallot mignonette and lemon wedges. The texture, the brininess, the chill it was like being dunked underwater at the beach as a kid without the sand in your swimming shorts.

Next came a bowl of steamed mussels, perfectly cooked and served with crusty sourdough for mopping up the broth. It was unfussy and flawless.
We followed that with what might be one of the best fish sandwiches in Dublin the aptly named Fillet O’Fish Shop. A beautifully fried fillet of white fish, nestled in a soft bun with crisp lettuce, tartar sauce, and a handful of golden chips on the side. It was comfort food elevated, the kind of dish that feels familiar but hits with finesse. It’s simple, satisfying, and quietly brilliant—just like the rest of the menu.
We nibbled on a bowl of green olives, sipped dry French rosé, and genuinely didn’t want the evening to end.
The Vibe
Fish Shop is tiny just a few tables and bar seats, no joke its very very small but it’s buzzing (this also means you need to make a reservation). The wine list leans natural and European, the playlist is low-key cool, and the staff clearly love what they do. Jess made us feel like regulars, even though it was our first time.
Final Thoughts on Fish Shop
Fish Shop Dublin: honest food, natural wine, personal service. You’ll leave planning your next visit before you’ve even finished dessert (though spoiler: there isn’t one—you’ll be too blissed out on fish, wine, and good vibes to care).
