Alright, whiskey wanderers, brace yourselves for one of the more bizarre fun facts of the day: Wolverine’s brother from X-Men has an Irish whiskey. Yup, didn’t think I’d be saying that today, but here we are! Today’s pour is Sláinte Irish Whiskey and as you know, Sláinte means “cheers” or “good health” in Irish. So, let’s see if this blend lives up to the name and raises a proper toast to taste.

This one’s a blended Irish whiskey, with a mix of single grain matured in ex-Bourbon casks and triple-distilled single malt aged in Sherry butts. After their solo journeys, these whiskies are reunited and rested in Bourbon casks, giving it a unique profile.

Rate That Pop

We can’t ignore the all-important pop, now can we?

On the Nose: Spices, Vanilla & Stewed Fruits

The nose opens with that familiar classic Irish whiskey aroma, featuring soft baking spices, warm vanilla, and a hint of ripe fruit. There’s even a subtle whisper of stewed fruits in the background, likely from that Sherry influence. It’s inviting and balanced, promising a gentle but enjoyable sip.

The Palate: Light, Crisp & Fruity

Take a sip, and you’re greeted with a bright and crisp mouthfeel. Those sweet vanilla notes lead the way, followed by bursts of fresh fruit that add a refreshing quality to the whiskey. The Sherry cask influence we detected on the nose? It’s there but ever so subtle, adding a whisper of depth without overshadowing the other flavours. The palate is smooth and fills the mouth beautifully, making for an easy-drinking experience.

The Finish: Medium & Satisfying

As for the finish, well, their website says it’s “not too long, but not too short,” and I’d agree it’s a solid medium length. The flavours linger just long enough to keep you interested but don’t overstay their welcome. It’s the kind of whiskey that you can sip on a casual evening, raising a glass to health, happiness, or, you know, mutant superheroes.

The Verdict on Sláinte Irish Whiskey:

Score: “Aye, It’s Grand” (6.6/10)
Sláinte Irish Whiskey earns its place sitting in the middle of “Aye, It’s Grand”. It’s a light, approachable blend with classic Irish whiskey notes and a touch of fruitiness from the Sherry cask influence. While it’s not going to blow your socks off, it’s certainly a pleasant drop.

Just be ready for a few funny looks if you ask for a Sláinte in a pub.
