About the Recipe

Okay, so yeah - for those who don't know the person behind Whiskey4Breakfast (the big secret that it is), my name is Ronan Collins.
Yes just like this drink you should definitely make. Yes, yes, I created a drink and named it after myself - I did, guilty - but there is good reason beyond the fact I love my name and well having a drink named after myself is funny, anyway I digress. So this is the methodology behind this Irish Whiskey style Collins.

Tom Collins: Gin, Lemon, Sugar topped with Soda and garnished with Lemon
John Collins: Bourbon, Lemon, Sugar topped with Soda and garnished with Orange
Pierre Collins: Cognac, Lemon, Sugar topped with Soda and garnished with Orange

So you can see where I am going with this?
The glass is called a Collins glass - so that's half the name sorted, easy.
Second. Essentially it's some male name that is in someway connected to the country of origin the spirit in the drink is made. So yeah Ronan is an Irish name, makes sense for this style of a drink - then stick Collins after it and you have a modern drink following classic cocktail standards.

It just so happens to be my name, I wasn't looking for attention.

Until I added the pineapple wedge and leaves - that was all attention.

Ingredients

  • 50ml Blended Irish Whiskey

  • 25ml Fresh Lemon Juice

  • 15ml Sugar Syrup (2:1)

  • 100ml Soda Water

  • Whole Pineapple

Preparation

Step 1

Put your Collins glass into the freezer.

This will give you the best drinking experience.

Step 2

We will prepare our garnish ahead of making the drink to save time.

Get your pineapple and cut it across the middle. Then cut a slice out of it. From that slice cut out a wedge, on the most

narrow side of the wedge make a little slit (this will slide onto your glass rim).

Also pick two of the sexiest looking pineapple leaves.

Set this all aside.

Step 3

Get out your cocktail kit. Open your tins.

Pour in your lemon juice, sugar syrup and Irish Whiskey and 1/4 fill it with ice.

Close the tins and give a short sharp shake for about 5-10 seconds.

Click open the tins.

Step 4

Get your Collins glass from the freezer.

Using your hawthorn strainer, strain your cocktail into your Collins glass.

Fill the glass with cubed ice and top the remaining liquid up with chilled soda water.

If needed give it all a little mix together with a spoon.

Step 5

Get your pineapple wedge and slide onto the side of your Collins glass.

Then place in your pineapple leaves and enjoy.
