There’s something deeply satisfying about coming in from a long, wet hike in Kilarney and tucking into a plate of fresh fish and chips. Quinlan’s Seafood Bar Killarney on High Street in Killarney has been my go-to spot for exactly that over the years.

High quality, fresh, and quick enough that you’re not sitting there in damp hiking gear for hours.

Side Note: Quinlan’s also have seafood spots in Cork, Tralee and Killorglin on the Ring of Kerry which I haven’t been to … yet. They also have another spot in Killarney called The Mad Monk which you can read about here.
Quinlan’s Seafood Bar Killarney: The Freshest Catch in Town
Quinlan’s Seafood Bar Killarney isn’t just another fish and chip shop, it’s the real deal. The fish here is caught daily by Kerry fishing boats, landed fresh, and cooked to order. Cod, hake, haddock, prawns, squid whatever’s in season and looking its best that day will be on the menu.
Also, you can sit in or take away. This may save the day as its always great food so crashing on a comfortable blue booth or grabbing and go will always fit some occasion.

You can taste the freshness in every bite – no frozen fish here. Their potatoes are peeled and chipped daily (this matters!), and the result is crispy golden chips that are dangerously addictive.
If you’re not in the mood for chips (or you’re trying to keep things on the lighter side), you can swap them for a fresh garden salad without losing out on flavour. Quinlan’s caters for vegetarians too, so everyone at the table is happy.

They also make a real effort with their specials board, which changes based on the catch of the day. On my last visit, the pan-fried seabass with nduja-spiced couscous nearly tempted me away from my usual order and that’s saying something.
What to Order
For me, it’s always the Spicy Fish Box. No matter how tempting the specials board looks, I can’t walk past it perfectly battered fish, sautéed peppers, crispy chips, and that hit of spicy aioli on the side. It’s still high quality Seafood in Killarney.

Yes, the fish is incredible, but I’m going to let you in on a little secret: the spicy aioli. It’s creamy, tangy, and just the right amount of spicy. Honestly, I could eat it with a spoon. Whatever you order, make sure you get some on the side (you can thank me later).

On rough, rainy Kerry days, I’ve been known to grab one as a takeaway and eat it straight in the car, heater blasting and windows fogged, feeling like I’ve just made the best decision of the week.
