I’ve probably been here ten times or more over the past few years. Moher Cottage is perched just beside St. Brigid’s Well, a stone’s throw from the Cliffs of Moher, and smack in the middle of some of the most stunning scenery in the country, this little gem has become one of my favourite stops along the Lahinch to Doolin route.

A Coffee Stop With a View

While the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre gets flooded with crowds (and queues longer than any one is happy to wait), just five minutes away is this relaxed, family-run coffee and gift shop that serves what has literally been voted Ireland’s best coffee.

Coffee with a view and some fudge

Yep, best in the country. And unlike the overpriced, lukewarm stuff at the main tourist hub, this cup actually lives up to the hype. Add in some fresh air, no tour buses, and a terrace that overlooks Liscannor Bay… well, now you’re living.

About Moher Cottage

Inside Moher Cottage Coffee Shop

What makes Moher Cottage extra special is its backstory. It’s not some big chain store trying to cash in on cliffside tourism. It’s run by Caitriona and Kevin Considine, fourth-generation locals who transformed their old cow shed into what is now a design-led haven of curated Irish gifts, delicious fudge, and great coffee.

The old stone building still carries its rural charm check out the turquoise signage, hand-painted “Fáilte” stone, and the cosy shop full of hand-picked Irish-made crafts, books, art, and homeware. It feels like you’re discovering a local secret. Because, well, you are… but on the edge of the biggest tourist attraction in Ireland.

It’s the people that make this place what it is. Caitriona and the crew are always up for a chat, full of local knowledge and recommendations. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, the warmth feels genuine.

If you are a keen walker you could include a Moher Cottage stop after Hiking the Cliffs of Moher, check out the route HERE.

That Fudge Though…

Let’s talk about the fudge. I’m not even a sweet tooth kind of person but this fudge is next-level good. I’ve tried white chocolate Oreo, lemon meringue, and mint choc (yes, I’ve worked my way through most of them), and each bite is like a little sugar-fuelled pillow slice of joy. Pair that with a silky flat white or hot chocolate and you’ve got a moment of pure Irish happiness and mega sugar rush for the day, you’ll probably want to scale the Cliffs of Moher after.

And they don’t do things in halves here there’s plenty of outdoor seating, some of it even covered for those rare rainy days (we get like one or two a year, right?).

Serious Souvenirs

I do love some local crafty goods!

So you like me this is your jam, don’t skip the shop at Moher Cottage, but don’t be thinking it’s just fridge magnets and leprechaun hats. It’s genuinely one of the most thoughtful and creative little shops I’ve come across. You’ll find everything from local crafts, to eco-friendly candles, small-batch skincare, and Irish-themed stationery that’s actually stylish.

A nice wee celebration of homegrown talent and the perfect place to pick up a non-tacky gift.
